Several hours of preparation, 1,200+ impressions, 3 days off work, Jordan's incredible generosity, my husband's limitless patience and 600+ hand trimmed invitations later...
I took most of last week off work to letterpress my sister's wedding invitations. Letterpress was a dying art, but has seen a resurgence in the past few years. You can take classes at The Center for the Book here in San Francisco. After you complete the required classes, you can rent press time for $20/hour. I will post the final result next week.
I saw these beautiful letterpress gift tags and cards by Olive & Page at a letterpress fair. The website shows the digital version which doesn't quite do justice to the beautiful impressions made on the letterpress, so you will have to imagine them with the subtle smokey ink lightly indented into a thick creamy textured paper.
These notepads are great to keep around your desk for scratch paper. Ars Antigua makes stationary and and other related products using great vintage images. There website is horrible to navigate, but click on writing blocks under the browse category heading and then be patient through the tutorial. Afterward you can search the images by category. The mirror image stationary and journals are pretty cool too. I have the Eiffel Tower image.
I agree with Edith Wharton who said it best, "The enjoyment of beauty and the exercise of critical intelligence are two of the best things worth living for."
